Mapping a Shampoo Order Through Baiyun’s Cosmetics Supply Chain

Use Baiyun’s cosmetics ecosystem to investigate leads, then identify the businesses responsible for the formula, filled product and selected packaging.

Unbranded shampoo bottle and pump packaging samples beside a capped formula-sample container

For a shampoo enquiry in Guangzhou's Baiyun district, I would start with a product brief and a list of the work that needed doing. The district government's published industry information describes a cosmetics ecosystem covering production, raw materials, packaging, design and testing. That would give me several kinds of supplier to investigate. I would still ask which business was quoting the shampoo and which parts of the proposed order it would actually carry out.

I would keep the formula sample separate from the bottle sample at the start of the enquiry. The supplier would receive the intended product brief and the proposed presentation, including the buyer's requested pack format. If it offered an existing formula, I would ask for that sample to have its own reference. If it proposed development work, I would ask who would return the sample and the corresponding product documentation. I would not describe a showroom bottle as the selected formula merely because its packaging looked suitable.

The returned offer would need to identify where the product was to be made and filled. I would ask the quoting contact to name the responsible business and location, then explain any separate packing arrangement. If a trading company coordinated the order, its contact details would remain with the file alongside the production information it supplied. I would keep that information as the proposed arrangement to be checked. An office address in Baiyun would not, by itself, tell me the location of the mixing or filling operation.

For the bottle and closure, I would ask who supplied each item and which references were being quoted. A pump version and a cap version would have separate pack references if both were offered. I would request a filled sample in the selected combination for the agreed assessment, rather than approve the bottle colour from an empty container and assume the whole pack had been settled. The responsible specialists would define the required product and packaging assessments. I would not use a regional industry description as evidence that a particular formula and pack had passed those checks.

I would ask how changes would return to the buyer during sampling. A different fragrance sample, a replacement bottle or an altered pump would each need an identifiable revision. I would want to know which contact would collect the revised sample and the related documents if more than one business was involved. The formula reference and the bottle reference could then travel together in the approval file. Where artwork or product statements were involved, I would have the responsible specialists review them for the intended market; sourcing the components in one district would not settle that review.

For the production quotation, I would put the selected formula reference beside the filled sample photograph. Below it I would list the bottle and closure references, with the pump option on a different line from the capped option if both were still being considered. I would ask the quoting contact to return that sheet with the proposed filling location against the chosen combination. If the contact suggested another bottle, I would want to see the replacement bottle reference in that same place on the sheet, together with the sample and assessment information needed for review. The older combination would stay in the file, so there was a visible record of which bottle and closure had been replaced.
